Kozhikode: Actor Koottikkal Jayachandran appeared before the police at the Kasaba station in Kozhikode on Thursday morning as part of an ongoing investigation into a POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) case.

Jayachandran's appearance comes after the Supreme Court temporarily stayed his arrest, urging him to fully cooperate with the investigation. The police are currently questioning the actor as part of the case.

The Supreme Court’s order has allowed Jayachandran to avoid immediate arrest, but he is required to assist with the investigation process. Further updates on the case are expected as the questioning continues.

Case history

Previously, the Kerala High Court had rejected Jayachandran's plea for pre-arrest bail. A lookout circular was also issued by the Kerala Constabulary for the actor.

The inquiry was launched following a grievance lodged by the alleged victim's mother. The accusation alleges that Jayachandran committed acts of sexual molestation against her four-year-old daughter, capitalising on a domestic disagreement.

The Kozhikode Kasaba law enforcement officials documented the young girl's testimony, which proved pivotal to the investigation. In denying the anticipatory bail request, the High Court underscored the significance of the child's account, asserting that it should not be discounted.
