India’s push toward autonomous mobility received a boost as a driverless car prototype, WIRIN (Wipro–IISc Research and Innovation Network), was unveiled in Bengaluru. The initiative is a collaboration between Wipro, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), and RV College of Engineering.

A video of seers seated inside the driverless car has since gone viral on social media.

The video shows the seer comfortably seated as the autonomous vehicle smoothly navigates across the RV College campus, powered by indigenous self-driving technology.

According to media reports, the prototype was unveiled at RV College of Engineering on October 27, marking the culmination of six years of research and development. The project involved a team of faculty and students coordinated by professors of RV College.

The project remains in development, with a formal launch anticipated in the coming months. According to a report by NDTV, teams are engaged in detailed mapping and analysis of Indian road conditions to ensure the vehicle’s safe and efficient operation once it becomes available.

In 2023, Bengaluru-based autonomous driving start-up Minus Zero introduced the zPod, which it described as India’s first autonomous vehicle. The zPod highlighted the company’s in-house self-driving technology.
