Here’s a revolutionary rub-on serum from Taiwan University that stimulates hair follicles and promotes regrowth in just 20 days. Science-backed with natural fatty acids.

Science may have just found the closest thing to a miracle for hair loss. Researchers from National Taiwan University have developed a revolutionary rub-on serum that can restore hair growth in as little as 20 days, and early lab tests show striking results.
In experiments conducted on mice, the serum regenerated hair follicles by activating fat cells, leading to quick and visible hair regrowth. What’s even more promising? The formula uses naturally derived fatty acids that are gentle on the skin and could eventually be sold as an over-the-counter product.
Professor Sung-Jan Lin, who led the study, revealed he even tested the early version of the serum on himself.
“I personally applied these fatty acids, dissolved in alcohol, on my thighs for three weeks and I found it promoted hair regrowth,” Lin told New Scientist.
It builds on a fascinating biological process called Hypertrichosis, the phenomenon where skin irritation or injury triggers excessive hair growth. To test this, researchers applied a mild irritant to shaved mice and noticed that within 10 to 11 days, the skin began sprouting fresh hair where irritation had occurred.
Here’s how it works:
When the skin is slightly irritated, immune cells move into the fatty layer beneath it. These fat cells then release fatty acids that stimulate dormant hair follicle stem cells, essentially “waking them up” and encouraging new growth.
To replicate this effect without skin irritation, the scientists created a serum made of oleic acid and palmitoleic acid, naturally occurring fatty acids found in both the human body and plant oils. Remarkably, the serum achieved similar results, making it a safe and non-invasive option for hair restoration.
“Oleic acids and palmitoleic acids are naturally derived fatty acids. They are not only rich in our adipose tissues, but also in many plant oils, so they can be safely used,” said Lin.
The research, published in Cell Metabolism, shows how the team’s findings could reshape the way we treat hair loss, offering a simple, topical alternative to invasive or chemical-heavy treatments. The formula has already been patented, and scientists plan to begin human scalp trials soon.
