The much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S26 series, succeeding the Galaxy S25 and S24, is already creating buzz among smartphone enthusiasts. The flagship Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is positioned to challenge premium rivals, including Apple’s rumoured iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Launch date
Samsung is likely to unveil the Galaxy S26 lineup in 2026. Traditionally, Samsung’s S series launches occur in January, but reports hint that the event could take place either in January or March 2026.
If the company sticks to its schedule, the Galaxy S26 Ultra 5G, alongside the Galaxy S26 Pro and Galaxy S26 Edge, could be revealed in January. The series is expected to include at least two models — the standard Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Price expectations in India
The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra 5G is expected to start at Rs 1,59,999 (or Rs 1,59,990) for the base model. Prices will vary depending on storage variants, which may include 12GB RAM options paired with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of internal storage.
Processor and performance upgrades
Powering the upcoming device could be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, delivering stronger performance compared to its predecessor. Some reports suggest Samsung might use Qualcomm’s 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor, paired with an Adreno 840 GPU for graphics.
With 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB storage, the S26 Ultra aims to offer smoother multitasking and gaming performance.
Subtle yet refined design changes
Design-wise, the Galaxy S26 Ultra may be 0.4mm slimmer than the previous model. The brand could abandon the floating camera ring design in favour of a raised or pill-shaped camera island, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The smartphone is expected to feature a 6.9-inch M14 OLED panel and may become Samsung’s first non-foldable phone to adopt Colour-on-Encapsulation (CoE) technology. This innovation integrates anti-reflective features into the OLED layer for thinner panels and better outdoor visibility.
Brightness levels could increase to 3000 nits, up from the 2600 nits seen on the S25 Ultra. The display will also shift to 10-bit technology, capable of producing over one billion colours — a major leap from the previous 8-bit panels.
Battery and charging performance
While retaining its 5,000 mAh battery, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to deliver better efficiency through its advanced chipset and new display technology. Charging speeds could reach 60W, enabling a 0–80% charge in about 30 minutes, compared to the older 45W limit.
An upgraded vapour cooling chamber is also expected to enhance thermal management during intensive use.
Enhanced camera system
The quad camera setup on the Galaxy S26 Ultra 5G is tipped to include a 200MP main sensor (1/1.1-inch Sony), a 50MP ultrawide lens, a 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x zoom.
Rather than drastic hardware overhauls, Samsung is reportedly focusing on software improvements and an updated Image Signal Processor (ISP) within the chipset to deliver enhanced photo quality and low-light performance.
A premium contender in the 2026 flagship race
With its cutting-edge processor, vivid OLED display, and fast-charging upgrades, the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is shaping up to be one of the most powerful Android flagships in 2026 — a direct rival to Apple’s next-generation iPhone lineup.
