Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro may launch with 256GB storage, but expect price hikes across the entire iPhone 17 series

Apple’s iPhone 17 series is set to debut next month, with the company’s annual launch event anticipated for September 9, 2025. In the lead-up to the reveal, fresh leaks have started to emerge, shedding light on potential upgrades and pricing changes. The latest reports suggest Apple is planning to raise prices across the entire iPhone 17 range, with the iPhone 17 Pro’s base storage option expected to jump from 128GB to 256GB. According to a Chinese leak, this price increase could be around $50 per model, putting the series’ starting price in the US at $849.
The leak comes from well-known Chinese tipster Instant Digital, who shared details on Weibo claiming the price bump is linked to rising component costs and ongoing tariffs in China. If accurate, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air could be priced at $849 (around ₹74,000) and $949 (about ₹83,000) respectively. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max—both expected to feature 256GB as the base storage—might cost approximately $1,049 (₹92,000) and $1,249 (₹1,09,500) in the US market.
This is not the first time whispers of a price rise have surfaced. The Wall Street Journal previously reported that Apple has been considering an increase for the upcoming series, largely due to significant design changes and new hardware features. While the Pro models appear set for substantial upgrades, the base iPhone 17 variants might offer fewer exciting changes this year.
The iPhone 17 family is expected to comprise four models—iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The standard model is likely to retain a design similar to its predecessor, but the Air and Pro variants may draw more attention. The iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to be the thinnest iPhone ever at just 5.5mm, while the iPhone 17 Pro is said to receive major improvements in design, performance, camera capabilities, and AI features.
