Apple has officially unveiled its latest iPhone 17 lineup, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro and the top-tier iPhone 17 Pro Max. Pre-orders for the new devices will begin this Friday, September 12, with sales starting September 19 in India and other major markets.

iPhone 17 Global pricing comparison

Pricing for the iPhone 17 varies across different countries. Here's a look at how much you’ll pay for the base iPhone 17 (256GB model) around the world:

United States: $799 (approx. ₹70,380), cheapest globally

Japan: ¥129,800 (approx. ₹77,500)

UAE: AED 3,099 (approx. ₹74,500)

India: ₹82,900

Germany: EUR 949 (approx. ₹98,000)

United Kingdom: GBP 949 (approx. ₹113,000)

As usual, India remains one of the most expensive countries to buy an iPhone, while the US continues to be the most affordable market. However, there’s a catch: the US version of the iPhone 17 is eSIM-only, meaning it does not support physical SIM cards, something potential international buyers should be aware of.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max pricing in India

In India, here’s how the new Pro models are priced:

iPhone 17 Pro (256GB): ₹1,34,900

iPhone 17 Pro (1TB): ₹1,74,900

iPhone 17 Pro Max (256GB): ₹1,49,900

iPhone 17 Pro Max (2TB): ₹2,29,900

The 2TB storage option is a first for Apple and pushes the iPhone 17 Pro Max to its highest price ever.

Storage upgrade at slightly higher cost

Interestingly, the base iPhone 17 offers 256GB of storage, double that of last year’s iPhone 16 base model, which came with 128GB. In India, the iPhone 16 launched at ₹79,900, while the iPhone 17 starts at ₹82,900, meaning you get double the storage for just ₹3,000 more.

So, while the new iPhones are priced higher, Apple has also bumped up the base storage across the lineup, offering better value for those needing more space.

Why are iPhones more expensive in some countries, including India?

The difference in pricing is largely due to:

  • Import duties and taxes
  • Currency exchange rates
  • Local VAT/GST
  • Apple’s regional pricing strategies

Markets like Hong Kong and the UAE offer lower prices due to lower taxes or tax-free shopping, while countries like India see high import duties and taxes, making the iPhones more expensive.

So, if you're planning to buy the new iPhone 17, the US is the most affordable place but be aware of the eSIM limitation. For Indian buyers, although the prices are high, Apple is offering more storage than before, which slightly offsets the price jump.
