Nothing’s new Ear (3) earbuds with ‘Super Mic’ feature and metal case stir user excitement

London-based technology brand Nothing on Tuesday revealed that its upcoming Nothing Ear (3) earbuds will include a ‘super mic’ feature, claiming that the earbuds will now be able to ‘hear you’. The announcement has intrigued users, with fans praising the brand’s innovative approach.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the company shared a brief but intriguing message: "Ear (3) with Super Mic. Now they can hear you." In the post, a model is seen holding the Ear (3) case near her mouth, as though she is about to speak into it.
The announcement has prompted widespread reactions among technology enthusiasts, many of whom are speculating about the purpose of the ‘super mic’. Several users believe it may be a microphone integrated within the case itself, rather than relying on microphones inside the earbuds.
“So its basically a better microphone in the case you can use to record or speak etc rather the buds microphone, interesting”, one user commented, suggesting its potential use for improved audio recording.
Another user wrote, “So it's gonna be a case with a super mic inside so you can vlog and use the case as a pro microphone? That would be great”. The possibility of using the case as a professional-grade microphone for content creation has become a major point of excitement.
Some users expressed mixed reactions. One hoped the feature would “effectively cancel out background noise, such as traffic horns or loud fans,” emphasising the need for clearer audio.
Meanwhile, another user voiced concern over privacy, simply writing, “I hope they don’t spy.” Due to the limited details provided by Nothing, many are left wondering about the technology’s exact purpose, with questions like “why a case should contain a microphone?”
Last week, Nothing shared the full design of the Ear (3) earbuds’ charging case, offering a new aesthetic days before the product’s launch on September 18. The company had been teasing glimpses of the case for weeks before finally unveiling its complete look.
The biggest change comes to the charging case. Unlike the transparent plastic frame of the Nothing Ear 2, the new Ear (3) case boasts a metallic finish that gives it a more robust and polished appearance. The grooves that previously showcased the earbuds through clear plastic have been replaced by smooth metal panels, resulting in a more squared design. However, the transparent lid – a signature feature – has been kept, preserving the brand’s design language.
