Jio's AI smart glasses could let users scan UPI QR codes, make payments using voice commands, translate conversations and follow live cricket commentary

Jio has showcased a new range of AI-powered wearables at India Mobile Congress 2026, highlighting how smart glasses and earphones could make everyday digital tasks easier without requiring users to reach for their smartphones. The lineup includes camera glasses, audio glasses and earphones, with features such as voice-controlled UPI payments, live translation, AI-powered note-taking and live cricket commentary.
One of the key features demonstrated at the event was Scan & Pay, which allows users to scan a UPI QR code using the camera glasses and initiate a payment through a voice command. The payment is processed after the user confirms the transaction, bringing hands-free interaction to everyday digital payments.
Jio AI glasses bring voice-controlled UPI payments
The Scan & Pay feature is designed to simplify payments at shops and other establishments that accept UPI. Instead of taking out a smartphone, unlocking it and opening a payment app to scan a QR code, users can use the glasses to scan the code and initiate the payment through voice commands.
The feature supports UPI Circle, which allows an account holder to authorise another user to make UPI payments from their account, subject to applicable conditions and limits. Under the limits cited for the showcased feature, payments can be made up to ₹5,000 per transaction, with a monthly limit of ₹15,000. These limits are associated with the applicable UPI Circle framework rather than being exclusive to Jio's hardware.
The feature highlights a potential shift in how people interact with digital payment services. By combining a camera, voice controls and AI-enabled functions, smart glasses could reduce the number of steps involved in routine transactions. However, the practical experience will depend on how the payment confirmation process works and how the feature is implemented in the final product.
Live translation across Indian languages
Jio's wearable lineup also features live translation, aimed at helping people communicate across language barriers. The technology is designed to translate conversations between speakers of different languages, potentially making interactions easier in workplaces, public spaces and other everyday settings.
Support for multiple Indian languages is an important part of the offering. Voice-based interfaces in familiar languages could make AI-powered services more accessible to people who are less comfortable using English-language apps or typing commands on a smartphone.
The usefulness of live translation will ultimately depend on the languages supported, translation accuracy and how quickly the devices can process conversations. Performance in noisy environments and the handling of regional accents will also matter to users.
AI note-taking and live cricket commentary
Beyond payments and translation, Jio has highlighted features aimed at productivity and entertainment.
The AI note-taking feature is designed to capture important points from meetings and conversations, potentially reducing the need to write everything down manually. For professionals who attend frequent meetings, this could offer a convenient way to keep track of discussions and key information. The practical value will depend on the accuracy of the notes, the ability to identify important details and the options available to review or manage recorded information.
Live cricket commentary is another feature in the showcase. It could allow users to follow match updates while travelling or carrying out other activities, without having to keep checking their phones. The feature also reflects how wearable devices could deliver information through audio rather than relying entirely on a screen.
An AI voice assistant rounds out the experience, allowing users to interact with digital services through spoken commands. Together, these features position the wearables as more than accessories for listening to audio or capturing images.
Can AI wearables reduce smartphone dependence?
Jio's showcase reflects a broader push to bring AI beyond smartphones, laptops and other screen-based devices. Smart glasses offer a different way to access information, using cameras, microphones, speakers and voice interfaces to make certain tasks available while users go about their day.
For Indian consumers, the combination of UPI payments, Indian-language support, translation and cricket commentary gives the concept a distinctly local focus. Rather than limiting the technology to general-purpose AI conversations, these features target familiar activities, from paying at a shop to following a cricket match.
