X (formerly Twitter) suffered a brief global outage on Friday evening, leaving thousands of users unable to refresh their feeds, search for posts or access the app and website for several minutes. The disruption, reported around 7 pm, prompted a surge in online searches for "Is X down?" before services were restored.
Outage-tracking platform DownDetector recorded a spike in reports during the disruption. According to the platform, 37 per cent of users reported issues with the feed or timeline, 32 per cent experienced problems with the app, while 19 per cent said the website was not functioning.
As the outage unfolded, users took to other social media platforms to check whether the issue was widespread.
"Is X down for you? Can you see this?" one user wrote.
Another posted, "What's wrong with X? Is it down today again?"
Several others complained that posts were not loading and timelines had stopped refreshing.
The disruption lasted only a few minutes, with the app and website returning to normal shortly afterwards. X had not immediately issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage.
