Netflix experienced a large-scale outage across the United States on Thursday night, leaving many users unable to stream content. According to outage-tracking platform DownDetector, more than 17,000 reports were filed by 9:20 pm EDT, and the number spiked to over 75,000 by 9:40 pm.

The primary complaint among users was a recurring error message stating: “This title is not available to watch instantly. Please try another title.” This message appeared regardless of which show or film users attempted to stream.

Users share frustration online

Frustrated subscribers took to social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to express their confusion and annoyance.

One user posted, “Is Netflix down or something? I’ll lose my mind if I’m not distracted back in two seconds.”

Another echoed the same issue, saying, “I'm getting ‘This title is not available to watch instantly’ for anything I try to play, on all my devices.”

What does the error message mean?

According to Netflix’s support page, the error typically suggests that there may be a problem with data stored on the user’s device that interferes with playback.

In most cases, refreshing the app or clearing cached data resolves the issue. However, given the scale of this outage, the problem appeared to be more widespread and likely linked to server-side disruptions.

As of now, Netflix has not released an official statement addressing the outage or providing details about its cause.
