Instagram has introduced a feature that lets you edit comments after posting, making conversations smoother and far less frustrating.

Made a typo? You’ve got 15 minutes

The new Instagram update, rolled out globally by Meta Platforms, gives users a 15-minute window to edit their comments. So if you’ve ever hit “post” too quickly or spotted a typo right after, you no longer have to delete the entire comment and start over.

Instead, you can simply tweak what you’ve written, whether it’s fixing spelling, rewording a sentence, or clarifying your message.

How the edit feature works

Using the feature is straightforward:

  • After posting a comment, tap on the “Edit” option below it
  • A pop-up window will appear, allowing you to modify your text
  • Save the changes within the 15-minute window

There’s no limit on how many times you can edit a comment during that period, giving users flexibility to refine their responses.

What you can (and can’t) edit

While the feature adds convenience, there are a few limitations:

  • You can only edit the text of a comment
  • If your comment includes an image, the image cannot be changed
  • After 15 minutes, the comment becomes final and can’t be edited

To keep things clear, Instagram will display a small grey “edited” label on updated comments. However, it won’t show the edit history, so others won’t be able to see what the original version said.

Until now, users could edit captions but not comments, making conversations clunky when mistakes happened. This update removes that friction, allowing for more natural, flexible interactions without interrupting the flow of discussions.
