OpenAI has introduced new ways to access ChatGPT, making it more user-friendly and accessible. Users can now interact with ChatGPT via Meta-owned messaging app, WhatsApp and a toll-free number (1-800-242-8478).

The WhatsApp feature is free and accessible in all countries where ChatGPT is supported, including India. While users from US and Canada also get 15 free minutes monthly via the phone line. This experimental feature offers a simplified way to interact with the AI. While this update is convenient, users needing advanced features should stick to traditional ChatGPT access.

ChatGPT on WhatsApp

ChatGPT is now available on WhatsApp, allowing users to chat with the AI directly through the Meta-owned messaging app. While Meta already offers its own AI chatbot on WhatsApp, OpenAI’s this service provides users with an alternative option for AI-driven conversations.

To activate ChatGPT on WhatsApp, users can simply connect via the number, 1-800-242-8478. OpenAI has assured users that the chatbot will not initiate any conversations or calls. However, there is a daily limit on the number of messages users can send.

Toll-Free Phone Service

OpenAI has launched in the US and Canada a toll-free service on the same number, for voice interactions. This feature does not require an OpenAI account.

While the voice call feature operates without requiring an account, OpenAI is exploring ways to integrate ChatGPT with existing WhatsApp accounts. This would allow users to access their chat history and personalize their experience. These new features are part of OpenAI’s “ship-mas” event, a series of innovative launches, including Sora, an AI video generation tool. OpenAI plans to refine and expand these services over time.
