New Delhi: Artificial intelligence giant OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health, a dedicated feature that allows users to securely connect their medical records and wellness apps to ChatGPT for more personalised health and wellness guidance.

Developed in collaboration with over 260 physicians across 60 countries, ChatGPT Health aims to help individuals take a more active role in managing their health while supporting, not replacing, professional medical care, OpenAI said in a blog post.

“You can securely connect medical records and wellness apps to ground conversations in your own health information, so responses are more relevant and useful to you. Designed in close collaboration with physicians, ChatGPT Health helps people take a more active role in understanding and managing their health and wellness -- while supporting, not replacing, care from clinicians,” the company noted.

The new feature comes amid growing demand for health advice via ChatGPT, with over 230 million weekly health and wellness-related queries globally.

With ChatGPT Health, users can connect apps such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal to decode test results, prepare for doctor appointments, manage diet and exercise routines, and understand the trade-offs of insurance options based on personal health data.

OpenAI has implemented several privacy and security measures: users can delete chats from the system within 30 days, conversations and files are encrypted at rest by default, and personal data is not retained. Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is available to strengthen access controls.

The feature will initially roll out to a limited group of early users outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK, covering ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans. OpenAI plans to expand access to all users on the web and iOS in the coming weeks. Some medical record integrations are currently available only in the US, and connecting to Apple Health requires iOS.
