Anthropic has rolled out India-specific pricing for its Claude AI assistant, allowing customers to pay for subscriptions directly in Indian rupees instead of US dollars. The move simplifies the payment process for users in India by removing international currency conversion while making it easier to understand exactly how much each Claude plan costs.

The update is being introduced across Claude's web platform and mobile apps, where eligible users are beginning to see local pricing. For Indian customers considering a paid AI assistant, the change offers greater pricing transparency and makes comparisons with competing services such as ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI tools more straightforward.

Claude AI subscription price in India

Anthropic has introduced rupee pricing across its paid plans, with GST included in the listed prices.

  • Claude Pro: Rs 2,000 per month with annual billing, or Rs 2,399 per month when billed monthly.
  • Claude Max: Available in two tiers priced at Rs 11,999 and Rs 23,999 per month, offering substantially higher usage limits aimed at developers, researchers and heavy AI users.
  • Claude Team: Starts at Rs 2,399 per user per month with annual billing.
  • Claude Team Premium: Rs 11,999 per user per month.

The introduction of local pricing means Indian subscribers no longer have to pay in US dollars, reducing payment friction and making the total subscription cost easier to understand.

The company says India has become one of its fastest-growing markets for Claude. According to Anthropic, the country is now its second-largest market globally after the United States and accounts for 5.8% of the chatbot's worldwide user base.

The local pricing announcement follows a series of investments by Anthropic in the Indian market. The AI company opened its first India office in Bengaluru earlier this year and has expanded its outreach to enterprises and software developers.

Anthropic has also partnered with fintech company Razorpay to help businesses integrate Claude into AI-powered products and services, signalling a stronger push into the country's growing AI ecosystem.

Competition in India's AI market intensifies

India has emerged as a key battleground for artificial intelligence companies. Global players including OpenAI, Google, Microsoft and Perplexity are all increasing their presence through new products, enterprise solutions and strategic partnerships.

By introducing subscription pricing in Indian rupees, Anthropic is removing one of the biggest hurdles for paid users while reinforcing the country's importance in its long-term growth plans.
