Android 16 launches on June 11 for Pixel devices; broader rollout follows in phased manner

Google is set to begin rolling out its latest mobile operating system, Android 16, on Wednesday. The update will initially reach select Pixel devices through an over-the-air (OTA) update. Wider availability is expected in the following weeks. Notably, this year marks an earlier release than usual, suggesting a shift in Google's software release approach.
While Android 16’s official launch begins with this rollout, many of the standout features—including the refreshed user interface and enhanced battery health tools—will not be part of the initial update. These are scheduled to be introduced later with the Android 16 QPR1 (Quarterly Platform Release 1) update.
Devices eligible for the Android 16 update
As expected, the rollout will begin with Google's own Pixel smartphones. These devices typically receive Android updates before other brands, which usually release them later after incorporating their own user interface customisations.
