Former Formula One driver Ralf Schumacher has raised questions regarding whether reigning champion Max Verstappen would be a suitable fit for Ferrari as intense speculation surrounding the driver's professional future persists.

Verstappen has recently generated uncertainty regarding his short-term future in Formula One by expressing explicit apprehensions about the upcoming technical regulations. Furthermore, Red Bull Racing's pronounced deficit in front-running pace this season has fueled theories that the team's performance slide could accelerate Verstappen’s departure, especially since the 28-year-old driver has already secured immense success within the sport.

Amid the mounting rumours of a potential team change, Schumacher suggested that Mercedes-AMG would represent a far more probable landing spot for the Dutch driver.

“Anything is conceivable,” Schumacher said during an appearance on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast. “Many drivers desperately want to go to Ferrari – it's something very special as a brand in Formula 1. But I think Max feels very comfortable at Mercedes, also with the GT3 setup and the teams that work together there, as well as the Mercedes engine. They're always building with the best engines.”

A transition to another constructor would also present logistical challenges for the driver. Because Verstappen is poised to lose several key personnel at Red Bull to competing teams, including his long-term race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, he would be prevented from transferring the core inner circle of engineering talent that supported his championship-winning campaigns.
