In the now deleted video, Shresta joked that Punjab had "gifted" the point to their rivals, remarking in Punjabi that her brother’s side possessed a "big heart.”

Shresta Iyer, sister of Punjab Kings captain and Indian ODI vice-captain Shreyas Iyer, has deleted a viral social media video following a wave of online hostility and personal threats. The controversy arose after a rained-out IPL 2026 fixture between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens left both teams sharing a single point.
In the original Instagram clip, Shresta joked that Punjab had "gifted" the point to their rivals, remarking in Punjabi that her brother’s side possessed a "big heart." What was intended as familial support and light-hearted terrace banter quickly soured as sections of the fanbase reacted with unexpected vitriol.

Addressing the fallout on Thursday, Shresta expressed her dismay at the escalation of the situation. While she stood by the intent of her post, she cited the emergence of "negativity" and "threat messages" as the primary reason for the video’s removal. Clarifying her position, she stated:
“I’m not removing the video because I believe I did something wrong, but because I respect my brother and his team, and I don’t want this space to turn into one filled with negativity.”

Before withdrawing the content, she urged followers to remain "kinder," insisting that her posts were never intended as a "troll" against KKR but were merely a "way of celebration." Despite the digital storm, she maintained that her priority remains supporting her brother’s campaign. The abandoned match, which saw only 3.4 overs of play, leaves both franchises vying for crucial position in a tightening league table. (With inputs from Agencies)
