London: Jofra Archer believes he could keep playing "until I'm 40" as he reaps the rewards of sharing the workload in England's revamped fast-bowling unit.

The current three-Test series against Pakistan marks the first time Archer has formed a seam attack alongside Ollie Robinson, Josh Tongue, and Gus Atkinson.

The initial impact of the quartet has been devastating. After routing Pakistan for 171 and 135 during an innings victory at Headingley last week, England skittled the visitors for a paltry 110 in just 37.3 overs on day two at Lord's, building a commanding 261-run lead by stumps.

Archer bowled with lethal pace on Friday, taking 3-26, while his Sussex teammate and county captain Robinson proved virtually unplayable, taking 4-11 across 13 economic overs.

"It's really nice having the extra seamers in the line-up. I could play until I'm 40 at this rate," said the 31-year-old Archer, whose international career was previously threatened by persistent injury setbacks.

"Each day it will be someone else's turn. Everyone was relentless, everyone wants wickets and it feels like no-one is ever going to be overworked because everyone shares the overs out."

Archer elaborated on the dynamics of the attack: "If someone is feeling tired you can just tell Rooty (England captain Joe Root) and get swapped out. You get fresh, then you come back again. You don't have to do too much because someone is going to back you up until you find your feet again."

During a ferocious opening burst, Archer removed Shan Masood, tested young opener Azan Awais, and registered speeds up to 94 mph while averaging 90.7 mph.

However, the fast bowler played down the numbers with a laugh. "Nah, the speed gun isn't working properly," he insisted.

"I saw some of them as I went back, it was nice to see but I've had times where I've felt better and never really had the speeds to show for it. I don't know who is up in the box working it but thanks, I'll take it."

England reached 81-3 in their second innings, anchored by Emilio Gay's resilient 30 not out, though persistent rain forecasts for Saturday threating to disrupt their push for victory. (AFP)
