New Delhi: To enable Kerala to thrive in hockey, the state must invest in enhanced training facilities and fundamental infrastructure, according to P R Sreejesh, the recently retired goalkeeper of the Indian hockey team. Highlighting the current standards of the sport, Sreejesh observed that international hockey matches are now predominantly played on AstroTurf surfaces. He mentioned that he would discuss these issues with the Sports Minister and Chief Minister.

During his farewell event, Sreejesh emphasised the need for organising more hockey tournaments in Kerala. He stressed that young players require quality training and the opportunity to participate in tournaments to hone their skills.
Sreejesh also disclosed that he does not plan to assume his new role as coach of the Indian junior team immediately upon his return. He stated that thorough preparations are needed to undertake this responsibility. According to Sreejesh, transitioning from athlete to coach requires both time and preparation. He clarified that he will only assume the coaching role once he feels sufficiently prepared.
Manu Bhaker attends as guest
In addition to team members and family, India's Olympic shooting medallist Manu Bhaker and her family attended Sreejesh's farewell event. They honoured him with a golden shawl and presented him with a sapling as a gift. The event was also graced by Indian Olympic team coach Craig Fulton, who joined the team members in bidding farewell to Sreejesh.
Earlier, P R Sreejesh participated in a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu, alongside other Indian Olympic stars.
