As the Paris Olympics draws to a close, India’s sporting journey has been a rollercoaster of emotions. Amidst a backdrop of cultural and political debates, the Games showcased both dramatic disappointments and moments of glory. Notably, the shocking exit of Vinesh Phogat from the 50 kg freestyle wrestling final due to being overweight by a mere 100 grams was a heartbreaking blow. Meanwhile, the ascent of shooter Manu Bhaker and the inspiring story of wrestler Aman Sehrawat provided a glimmer of hope.
Away from the competition, an endearing image has captured the hearts of many. Indian sporting icons Neeraj Chopra, PT Usha, and recently retired hockey star PR Sreejesh were spotted enjoying Indian cuisine in what appears to be the Olympic Village. Shared by ‘Team India’ on their X handle with the caption, “The pull of Indian food on foreign land > Looks like a delectable conversation amongst legends!” the photo has been widely celebrated. Fans have responded enthusiastically, with one from Kerala exclaiming, “Esp when Payyoli Express and the Wall of Indian Hockey hail from the same state of God’s own Country Kerala,” and another commenting, “ Yummy Dosa.”
India’s contingent of 117 athletes concluded the Games with six medals, including one silver and five bronze, leaving a mixed but hopeful legacy from Paris.
