The legal action pertains to promotional videos featuring film tracks from Jailer and Coolie.

The Madras High Court is set to hear a copyright dispute involving two of Tamil Nadu’s most influential entities: the Sun TV Network and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL franchise.
Sun TV Network has filed a petition seeking an interim injunction against the cricket team for the unauthorised use of musical scores from several Rajinikanth blockbusters. The legal action pertains to promotional videos featuring film tracks from Jailer, Coolie, and the upcoming Jailer 2.

The contentious footage includes high-profile social media "reels" celebrating the team’s talisman, M.S. Dhoni. It also features a promotional clip for the recently signed Malayali batter Sanju Samson, who joined the franchise from Rajasthan Royals; the video notably utilised the hit track ‘Hukuum’ to mark his arrival.
Sun Pictures, the production arm of Sun Network, maintains that as the sole copyright holders of the films, their intellectual property has been used without requisite licensing.
During a preliminary hearing before Mr Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy, counsel for the Chennai Super Kings, Mr P.S. Raman, indicated that the franchise would comply with the demands. While noting that such snippets had been used for three years without previous complaint, the franchise has committed to withdrawing the music from all future promotional material.
The Court has ordered the Chennai Super Kings to submit a formal affidavit outlining their position ahead of the scheduled hearing.
