Engineered for Mexico’s unique high-altitude and rainy conditions, the fleet ensures reliable travel to major stadiums.

Mexico City: A fleet of 115 next-generation light rail trains manufactured by Chinese rolling stock producer CRRC Corp. Ltd. is projected to transport 1.25 million passengers per day across Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, offering transit links to the opening ceremony site and prominent arenas during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The trains operating on the direct route to Mexico City Stadium, the site of the opening ceremony scheduled for June 11 local time, were engineered specifically to handle elevated altitudes and the regional rainy season, according to CRRC.
Featuring regenerative braking technology, minimised-noise ventilation systems, and upgraded accessibility accommodations, the railcars are intended to deliver a comfortable and energy-conscious transit experience.
On Metrorrey Line 1, which runs directly to the World Cup venue Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, the vehicles have received updates to their control architectures, power efficiency, and running capabilities. The enhancements are tailored to supply a more intelligent, environmentally sustainable, and streamlined commute for locals and tourists alike.
Meanwhile, Guadalajara's Light Rail Line 4 links heavily populated southern neighbourhoods with the municipality's broader rail network. The line enables commuters and soccer spectators to transition to the Mi Macro Periférico bus rapid transit corridor, providing a route to Estadio Akron while easing peak traffic congestion on game days.
To counter the combined obstacles of high-altitude topography, heavy seasonal downpours, and sudden surges in ridership numbers, CRRC has implemented an "all-weather" operational management program.
The support strategy incorporates a three-level emergency action protocol, the on-site assignment of veteran engineers, and around-the-clock technical monitoring units to preserve tight scheduling intervals and dependable transit operations during the tournament.
Furthermore, the manufacturing firm plans to introduce a "green energy station" program within Mexico, aiming to inspire soccer fans to utilise low-carbon, sustainable transit options.
The transit fleet, built by the Chinese enterprise CRRC—among the premier rail equipment manufacturers globally—will enter "tournament mode" operations beginning June 11, the official opening day of the global sports event, across the three Mexican host municipalities.
