The Premier League has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at Newcastle United midfielder Joe Willock on social media, pledging to support an investigation and take action against those responsible. Willock received the abuse on Instagram following Newcastle's 2-1 defeat to Fulham at St James' Park on Saturday. The 25-year-old, who was a second-half substitute, had missed a chance to put his team ahead before Fulham secured victory with a late goal from Rodrigo Muniz.

"The Premier League is appalled by the abuse received by Joe Willock. We are working with the club and authorities to support Joe. We will investigate and, where possible, take action against any individual we are able to identify. Discrimination of any kind has no place in our game or anywhere in society," read the message on the Premier League's official page.

Newcastle United condemned the racist messages, stating, "There is no room for racism anywhere." The club expressed its commitment to supporting Willock and ensuring the welfare of all players, staff, and supporters. Newcastle has reported the incident to both Meta, the owner of Instagram, and the police, urging social media companies to take stronger action to prevent such abuse.

Willock's teammate, Alexander Isak, expressed solidarity by posting on X, "We win together, we lose together! Always with you brother Joe Willock. There's no room for racism."

This incident follows a week of other high-profile investigations into online abuse, including threats against referee Michael Oliver and Arsenal's Kai Havertz and his wife. The Premier League reiterated its commitment to eradicating abuse and supporting players through such incidents.
