The BCCI has ruled out Thiruvananthapuram’s Kariyavattom Stadium as a venue for the Women’s ODI World Cup. The opening match between India and Sri Lanka will be played in Guwahati.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kariavattom Stadium in the city will not host any matches in the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup, the BCCI confirmed while releasing the official list of venues.
There had been speculation that matches originally scheduled at Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium could be shifted to Thiruvananthapuram, but they have instead been moved to other venues.
Kariavattom was earlier reported as a possible host for the tournament opener. However, the opening match between India and Sri Lanka will take place in Guwahati. India’s remaining fixtures are scheduled at Visakhapatnam, Navi Mumbai and Indore.
The matches were shifted from Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru following the stampede tragedy that took place during the celebrations of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL title win.
The World Cup will run from September 30 to November 2, with 8 teams, India, England, New Zealand, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia, competing across five venues. The semi-finals are set for October 29 and 30, while the final will be played on November 2. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s matches will be held in Sri Lanka.
