Dambulla: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's extraordinary rise in world cricket gathered further pace on Sunday as the 15-year-old became the fastest half-centurion in List A history during the India A-Sri Lanka A Tri-Series final.

The teenage opener needed only 11 deliveries to reach his fifty, making him the first player ever to achieve the feat in fewer than 12 balls in a List A match. In doing so, Sooryavanshi eclipsed the long-standing record of Sri Lanka's Kaushalya Weeraratne, whose 12-ball fifty had stood untouched for more than two decades.

The record-breaking innings came just weeks after Sooryavanshi earned a maiden call-up to India's senior T20I squad, further cementing his status as one of the brightest young talents in the game.

Batting with complete freedom at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, the left-hander dismantled the Sri Lanka A bowling attack from the outset. He struck five fours and five sixes on his way to the fastest fifty ever recorded in the format before continuing his assault beyond the milestone.

A century looked well within reach, but the youngster eventually fell for a breathtaking 94 off only 29 deliveries after being dismissed by Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige in the ninth over. His innings featured 10 boundaries and eight sixes and transformed the final within the space of a few overs.

The latest feat adds to what has already been a landmark month for the Bihar batter. Earlier this month, Sooryavanshi became the youngest player ever named in India's men's squad when selectors picked him for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games.

At 15 years, he surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's long-standing mark as the youngest cricketer selected for India's men's team. If he takes the field during the upcoming assignments, Sooryavanshi will also become the youngest player to make an international appearance for India.
