The Indian men’s cricket team is reported to be safe and unharmed after a brief period of confinement to their hotel rooms in Birmingham, following a security alert involving an unattended package near their accommodation. The incident occurred on the eve of the second Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series, scheduled to be played at Edgbaston.

After returning from a practice session, the players were advised by local authorities to remain indoors as a precautionary measure. This followed reports of a suspicious parcel in the vicinity, which prompted a police investigation and a temporary cordon around Centenary Square.

According to a team spokesperson, everything was under control and there was no cause for concern. 

Several social media users had posted that the Indian squad had been confined to their rooms under police instructions. One post on X mentioned that the team had been asked to stay inside after West Midlands Police cordoned off the Centenary Square area due to a suspicious object.

Local media later confirmed that a package had been discovered unattended in the square, prompting an immediate security response. However, the situation was resolved within about an hour, with police lifting the cordon and confirming that no threat was posed.

The Indian side, which arrived in Birmingham last week after playing the first Test in Leeds, is currently preparing for the second game of the series. England, led by Ben Stokes, currently hold a 1-0 lead after a dramatic five-wicket win at Headingley. The hosts pulled off a remarkable chase of 371 runs on the final day, leaving India to reflect on missed opportunities despite five individual centuries in the match.

India’s lower order struggled to contribute in both innings, and their fielding performance came under heavy criticism due to multiple dropped catches and misfields. With Shubman Gill at the helm, the visitors will be eager to regroup and level the series with a strong showing at Edgbaston.
