Throughout the season, Desert Vipers had looked a class apart. They lost only two of their ten league matches and asserted their authority over MI Emirates when it mattered most.

Desert Vipers finally turned persistence into reward as they clinched their maiden ILT20 title with a dominant 46-run victory over MI Emirates in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After losing in two previous finals at the same venue, the Vipers made sure the third appearance truly lived up to the saying “third time’s the charm.”
Throughout the season, Desert Vipers had looked a class apart. They lost only two of their ten league matches and asserted their authority over MI Emirates when it mattered most. Having already beaten MIE convincingly by 45 runs in Qualifier 1, the Vipers carried that momentum into the final under the Ring of Fire in Dubai.
MI Emirates won the toss and opted to field, banking on a surface that had largely favoured teams chasing. The Vipers, however, were unfazed despite missing wicketkeeper-batter Andries Gous due to a calf injury. Historically, teams batting first at the venue had averaged just over 154 runs, making a strong total crucial.
Openers Fakhar Zaman and Jason Roy showed early intent with boundaries, but both fell in quick succession to Fazalhaq Farooqi, leaving the Vipers at 36 for 2. That brought captain Sam Curran to the crease. Curran, who had taken over leadership duties from Lockie Ferguson this season, once again demonstrated why his captaincy had drawn praise, including from MI Emirates skipper Kieron Pollard.
Curran played a composed and calculated innings, adapting well to the low-scoring conditions. After a slow start, he found momentum through well-timed boundaries and capitalised on loose deliveries from Romario Shepherd to clear the ropes. His unbeaten 74 off 51 balls anchored the innings, supported effectively by Jason Holder’s 41. Despite not being a high-tempo knock, Curran’s innings ensured stability and direction. Desert Vipers finished with a strong 182 for 4, aided by MI Emirates conceding 11 wides.
In response, MI Emirates struggled to match the required tempo. The Vipers’ bowling attack delivered collectively, with David Payne claiming 3 for 42, Naseem Shah producing a superb spell of 3 for 18, and Usman Tariq troubling batters with his variations to pick up 2 for 20. MI Emirates were eventually bowled out for 136 in 18.3 overs, despite a fighting 36 from Shakib Al Hasan.
As the final wicket fell, Sam Curran celebrated an emotional triumph, leading his side to their first ILT20 title. He was deservedly named Player of the Match and also claimed both the Green Belt and Red Belt for the second consecutive season. For Desert Vipers, consistency, resilience, and leadership finally culminated in championship glory. (With inputs from Agencies)
