New Delhi: In the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, India is taking strict measures against Pakistan. According to the latest reports, India has halted the import of products from Pakistan, both directly and indirectly. As the situation continues to deteriorate, the upcoming Asia Cup cricket tournament, slated to be held in India, is also facing uncertainty. There is a growing possibility that the tournament, scheduled for September this year, might be postponed.

According to a report by The Times of India, the chances of a cricket match between India and Pakistan under the current circumstances are very slim. India was scheduled to participate in the Asia Cup following their series against Bangladesh. However, there are now concerns about whether even the series with Bangladesh will take place.

Reports suggest that the Asia Cup tournament, planned for September, is likely to be held in a hybrid model. Pakistan will not travel to India to participate in the tournament. Instead, they will play their matches in a different country. Sri Lanka and the UAE are under consideration as alternative venues for hosting the Asia Cup, but no final decision has been made yet.

Cricket matches between India and Pakistan are usually confined to ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup under the Asian Cricket Council. Cricketing ties between the two countries have been strained since the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks, which also affected political relations. Since participating in the 2008 Asia Cup, India has not toured Pakistan.

India also did not travel to Pakistan for the recently held ICC Champions Trophy. Instead, a hybrid model was implemented, with all of India’s matches conducted in Dubai. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had already decided to implement a hybrid model for all ICC tournaments held in India or Pakistan during the 2024–2027 period.
