India’s opening batter Abhishek Sharma faces uncertainty ahead of the high-profile T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan, as he continues to recover from a stomach ailment that forced him to miss the game against Namibia. Despite his current fitness concerns, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir expressed strong opinions about Abhishek’s batting style, labelling him a “slogger” and highlighting the risks associated with his aggressive approach.

Speaking on the show Haarna Mana Hai, Amir noted, “To be honest, he is primarily a slogger. His probability of failing is high, and technically he is not a strong batter. He struggles with deliveries bowled on the body line, and he will also find slow balls challenging.” Amir explained that Abhishek’s scoring potential is evident when he gets going, but his reliance on consistently hitting big shots makes him a high-risk player. According to the former pacer, the batter can truly be considered accomplished only if he successfully tackles swinging deliveries while maintaining his usual power-hitting intensity.

Abhishek has also battled weight loss and brief hospitalisation due to his illness, having reportedly lost 2kg, though he has not been ruled out of the clash with Pakistan. His presence in the squad remains uncertain, with his fitness a key factor for the match strategy. The upcoming contest will test both his recovery and ability to handle pressure against a disciplined Pakistani bowling attack, where careful line and length could exploit his aggressive tendencies.

Despite the challenges, Abhishek’s explosive potential remains a threat, making him a player to watch if he is fit to take the field. (With inputs from Agencies)
