Marco Jansen tops the ICC Test bowling and all-rounder rankings after South Africa’s win over Australia, while Abhishek Sharma reclaims No. 1 among T20I batters.

A match-winning performance can change the course of a game, but Marco Jansen’s display against Australia has transformed his standing in Test cricket.
The South African all-rounder has climbed to the top of both the ICC Men’s Test bowling and all-rounder rankings, while India’s Abhishek Sharma has reclaimed the No. 1 position among T20I batters following his explosive century against New Zealand.
Jansen’s rise follows South Africa’s commanding innings-and-31-run victory over Australia in the second match of their ICC World Test Championship series.
The left-arm fast bowler delivered across departments, scoring 85 with the bat before taking five wickets for 33 in the first innings and one for 34 in the second.
His performance also propelled him 13 places up the Test batting rankings to 56th, marking a significant improvement across all three categories.
The latest rankings update carries historical significance for South African cricket.
Jansen is the first bowler from the country to occupy the top position since Kagiso Rabada held the distinction in November 2024.
He is also South Africa’s first top-ranked Test all-rounder since Vernon Philander achieved the feat in August 2014.
Bavuma closes in on the Test batting summit
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has made an equally impressive leap after his match-winning 179 against Australia. The innings has lifted him four places to a career-best second position in the Test batting rankings.
Bavuma now trails only England’s Harry Brook, placing him within reach of the top spot. If he overtakes Brook, he would become the first South African batter to lead the Test rankings since A.B. de Villiers in November 2015.
Australia’s Scott Boland has also benefited from his performance, moving up three places to sixth among Test bowlers after taking five wickets for 81 runs. South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder has climbed 10 places to 43rd after taking five wickets across the two innings.
Abhishek Sharma displaces Ishan Kishan in T20Is
In the shortest international format, Abhishek Sharma has returned to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings after a blistering 35-ball century against New Zealand in Wellington on Tuesday.
His latest performance has pushed team-mate Ishan Kishan down to third, ending Kishan’s four-month spell at the summit.
This is Abhishek’s second stint as the world’s top-ranked T20I batter, having previously held the position from July 2025 to June this year.
Other players have also gained ground following the ongoing series in New Zealand. India’s Sanju Samson has climbed six places to 20th, while New Zealand’s Finn Allen has advanced three places to 25th, and Glenn Phillips has surged 20 places to 37th.
The bowling rankings have also seen movement. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner has risen seven places to seventh, while India’s Arshdeep Singh has moved up six places to 15th. India’s Prince Yadav has jumped 19 places to 83rd.
Brook and Duckett rise despite losing causes
The ODI rankings have also seen notable changes after the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series, which featured Sri Lanka, and the performances of England’s leading batters.
Ben Duckett and Harry Brook each climbed six places, reaching seventh and eighth, respectively. Duckett struck 105 against Pakistan, while Brook produced the fastest double century in the format against Sri Lanka. However, both efforts came in defeats.
Pakistan’s Shadab Khan has advanced 32 places to 92nd after his unbeaten 113 helped his team secure a one-run victory over England in Lahore.
Sri Lanka’s Janith Liyanage has risen 10 places to 14th, while Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza has moved up seven places to 20th.
Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus has gained 15 places to 45th, while the Netherlands’ Max O’Dowd has climbed 7 places to 55th.
Bowlers and all-rounders make ODI gains
Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai has climbed 13 places to seventh in the ODI bowling rankings. Namibia’s Vernard Scholtz has moved up nine places to eighth, while Sri Lanka’s Dumith Wellalage has gained eight places to reach 19th.
Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi has advanced 14 places to 27th among ODI bowlers. His progress extends to the all-rounder rankings, where he has climbed five places to third.
The latest update highlights standout performances across formats, with Jansen and Abhishek emerging as the biggest beneficiaries.
While South Africa’s Test success has elevated Jansen into the sport’s elite, Abhishek’s power-packed innings has restored him to the top of the T20I batting hierarchy.
