Bengaluru: Ahead of the upcoming cricket matches at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here, authorities have put extensive safety and traffic measures in place. The matches are scheduled to begin on March 28, with another fixture planned for April 5, as officials aim to ensure a smooth and secure experience for spectators.

Police outline safety and traffic arrangements

Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemath Kumar Singh addressed a press conference on Tuesday, stating that all arrangements have been made based on committee recommendations. The focus, he said, is on maintaining safety and ensuring the matches proceed without disruption.

He emphasised the importance of public cooperation, explaining that only spectators with valid digital tickets will be permitted entry into the stadium. He also made it clear that individuals without tickets will not be allowed to gather near the venue.

The Commissioner urged attendees to take shared responsibility by arriving on time and following guidelines, noting that entry will be strictly limited to ticket holders.

Travel and parking advisory for spectators

Police have organised parking facilities, including paid parking options that can be booked while purchasing match tickets. To ease congestion, the public has been encouraged to use public transport.

Metro services are being promoted, with integrated ticketing options available. Spectators can reach the stadium via the MG Road and Cubbon Park Metro stations, both located close to the venue. Authorities have also advised the use of BMTC buses as an alternative to reduce traffic on match days.

Officials reiterated that no one without a valid ticket will be allowed to assemble around the stadium, as such gatherings could lead to traffic disruption and inconvenience for those attending the matches.

Emergency preparedness measures in place

The police commissioner stated that all necessary steps have been taken to ensure safety and security during the matches. Preparations include mock drills and evacuation exercises to handle any emergency situations.

Ambulances and medical teams have been deployed in and around the stadium to respond quickly if needed. Authorities have once again appealed to the public to cooperate fully to ensure a safe and smooth experience.

2025 stampede tragedy

The heightened security arrangements come in the wake of a tragic incident on June 4, 2025, when a stampede occurred outside the stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victory celebrations.

The incident led to the deaths of 11 fans and left more than 50 injured. The situation arose due to severe overcrowding, with an estimated 300,000 people present at the venue.

RCB announces tribute for victims

As the new IPL season begins, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has announced several measures to honour those who lost their lives. The first match of the season will take place on March 28 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

RCB management official Rajesh Menon addressed the media and said that 11 seats will be reserved in memory of the victims. He also stated that players and staff will wear black armbands as a mark of respect.

In addition, 11 seats will remain unoccupied during every match as a tribute to the deceased.

New safety measures and ongoing support

Menon noted that several changes have been introduced this season as precautionary steps, with a focus on improving safety. He said the management has taken necessary actions and continues to implement measures to avoid any repeat of past incidents.

He added that the franchise has already extended support to the families of the victims and that further discussions will take place on additional assistance in the future.

Investigation limits public statements

When asked about the lack of an earlier press conference regarding the stampede, Menon explained that the franchise was unable to comment due to ongoing investigations.

He said a case was registered immediately after the incident, including a suo motu case, and that the matter is currently before the court. With four agencies involved in the investigation, the management is not in a position to speak on the issue at present.

Tribute continues beyond match days

As part of the tribute, Menon announced that players will wear jersey number 11 during every practice session to honour the 11 victims. This gesture will be followed consistently as a mark of remembrance and respect.

The RCB management confirmed that these steps are intended to express condolences and ensure that the loss of lives is acknowledged throughout the season.
