Sharma also praised the SRH team environment for his growth and dedicated his innings to his family.

Hyderabad: Abhishek Sharma authored a career-defining performance in IPL 2026, propelling Sunrisers Hyderabad to a commanding victory over the Delhi Capitals with a relentless, unbeaten 135. While his record-breaking batting dominated the scoreboard, it was the opening batter’s blend of humour and sentiment regarding his father’s "instructions" that resonated after the match.
Following his explosive innings, Sharma made a playful appeal to the match broadcasters. "And next time, I just want one of the cameras to just go to him and just see his reactions. It's going to be really fun," Sharma said. "And it's actually incredible how I always look at him, and he's always looking at me and giving me the instructions. So that also helps me a bit. And of course, it's always special to perform in front of the parents and the friends as well."
A Lifelong Mentorship
Sharma revealed that his father’s presence near the sightscreen has been a consistent fixture of his career since his youth. He noted that even as a professional in the IPL, he still receives tactical advice from the stands during matches.
"To be very honest, I don't know how since U12 days, my dad's been sitting next to the screen always and in Hyderabad as well, he's always sitting there," the SRH opener explained. "And whenever I'm just on the non-striker end, he always tells me how to play. So it's still going on."
Seated once again near the sightscreen, Sharma’s father watched as his son dismantled the Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack with a display of fearless strokeplay that anchored Hyderabad’s massive total.
Tactical Execution and Support
Sharma attributed his current success to the foundational shifts made within the Sunrisers organisation and the trust placed in him by the coaching staff.
"You have to have the backing from the captain and the coach... the environment we had in Sunrisers in 2024 was a game-changer," he remarked. Reflecting on the match’s progression, he added: "The way we started, I felt we had a plan... it was a bit slow, so we had to re-plan... I just wanted to entertain the crowd."
Symbolic Celebrations
The innings also provided Sharma an opportunity to showcase his signature celebrations. He clarified that his frequent "L" hand gesture is a tribute to the supporters. "I've been doing this L celebration for quite long. It's just love for the stadium, the way they support us throughout all the tournament and all the games, even back at the hotel as well," he said. "I want to show some love to them."
He further noted that a newer celebration was added to commemorate the rare achievement of batting through the entire 20-over duration.
Sharma dedicated the milestone to his family, specifically mentioning his sister, who was unable to attend the game due to an illness. His 135-run masterclass steered Hyderabad to a total of 242 for 2, ultimately securing a 47-run win and further solidifying SRH's standing in the tournament.
