Yuvraj Singh is set to join Delhi Capitals as batting coach for IPL 2027, bringing with him a reputation for mentoring stars like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma. With DC eyeing a fresh start after back-to-back disappointing seasons, can the former India all-rounder help revive the franchise's fortunes?

Delhi Capitals are preparing for a major reset ahead of IPL 2027, and one of the biggest changes could see former India star Yuvraj Singh take charge of the franchise's batting unit.
Sources tracking developments have indicated that Yuvraj is expected to join Delhi Capitals as batting coach, marking his first coaching assignment in the Indian Premier League. The move is likely to be part of a wider restructuring of the franchise's support staff as co-owner JSW prepares to take over operational control of the men's team for the next cycle.
But beyond the high-profile appointment, what makes Yuvraj's arrival important is his growing reputation as a mentor to some of India's most successful young batters.
Why Yuvraj's appointment could be a game-changer for Delhi Capitals
In recent years, Yuvraj has worked closely with India skipper Shubman Gill and T20 star Abhishek Sharma, both of whom have credited the former all-rounder for helping shape their approach and development.
Gill has evolved into one of the world's leading all-format batters, while Abhishek has emerged as one of the most destructive players in T20 cricket. Yuvraj's guidance has also been sought by several Indian cricketers, including wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant during challenging phases of his career.
For a Delhi Capitals side that has struggled for consistency and failed to qualify for the IPL playoffs in the last two seasons, the franchise will hope Yuvraj's experience and player-development skills can unlock the potential of its batting group.
The former India star remains one of the most decorated white-ball cricketers of his generation, having been named Player of the Tournament in India's winning campaigns at both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.
The expected appointment comes amid a broader reshuffle within the franchise.
According to sources, current support staff members Venugopal Rao, Hemang Badani and Munaf Patel are unlikely to continue as Delhi Capitals enter a new management phase under JSW. The franchise's ownership structure allows GMR and JSW to alternate control of cricket operations every two years.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is expected to return as Director of Cricket, overseeing the men's setup. Ganguly and Yuvraj share a long-standing association dating back to their playing days, with Ganguly playing a pivotal role in Yuvraj's early international career.
"Sourav Ganguly will take over as Director of Cricket and Yuvraj will join as the batting coach," the IPL source told PTI.
While Ganguly's responsibilities are expected to extend across the Capitals ecosystem, including other franchise teams, Yuvraj's focus is likely to remain on the IPL side's batting programme.
Rishabh Pant return on the cards?
The coaching changes could coincide with significant player movement ahead of IPL 2027.
Sources indicate discussions could take place between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants regarding a potential trade involving former DC captain Rishabh Pant and India spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
If such a move materialises, Pant could find himself back at the franchise where he established himself as one of the league's most exciting players. The financial structure of any deal is expected to differ from his current contract, while Kuldeep's salary would remain unchanged.
