Ruturaj Gaikwad’s exclusion from the T20 squad for Sri Lanka has sparked yet another controversy in cricket circles. Young stars like Rinku Singh, Riyan Parag, Umran Malik, and T Natarajan have often been snubbed for a variety of reasons.

Some argue it's in the team's interest to make such decisions, citing a current 'problem of plenty' within the Indian cricket team. However, upon scrutiny, multiple reasons often emerge for such differential treatment.

The latest to criticise Team India’s selection process is former cricketer S Badrinath. Gaikwad's omission from the squad for the Sri Lankan tour later this month left him fuming.

Badrinath, on his social media handle, shared a video clip. In a conversation with Cric It, he expressed his displeasure over Gaikwad’s exclusion despite the right-handed batsman's impressive showing in the recent Zimbabwe tour, where he scored a composed fifty in one of the T20Is.

Badrinath launched a scathing attack on the selectors, saying, “It seems like you need to have a bad guy image to catch the selectors' eye. Players like Gaikwad and Rinku are often not given enough opportunities. I think having relationships with Bollywood actresses, body tattoos, and a good media manager often gets you noticed by the selectors.”

The former cricketer’s comments have sparked yet another debate on social media regarding the selection process of the Indian cricket team. Agencies
