In a gripping Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter, Delhi Capitals emerged victorious over Rajasthan Royals in a nail-biting Super Over finish, after both teams were tied at 188 runs at the end of the regulation 20 overs.

Batting first in the Super Over, Rajasthan Royals posted a modest 12-run target, which Delhi chased down in just four deliveries. Surprisingly, despite a brilliant performance earlier in the match, RR batter Nitish Rana, who scored 51 runs off 28 balls, did not feature in the Super Over batting line-up.

Addressing the media following the match, Rana clarified the decision:

“It was a collective call made by the team management. It wasn’t just one person’s decision. The captain, two senior players, and the coach were all involved. If Hetmyer had hit two sixes, nobody would be questioning this now. I have nothing more to say. We stand by our decision. Everyone knows Hetmyer is our finisher,” Rana said firmly.

Rana also defended the management’s decision to opt for Sandeep Sharma to bowl the Super Over instead of Jofra Archer.

“Again, this wasn’t an individual decision. The support staff and management made this call after discussion. If the outcome had been different, the questions would have been too. Sandeep had bowled well previously in similar situations. For us, given the circumstances, he was the right choice,” he added.

For Rajasthan, Shimron Hetmyer and Riyan Parag came out to bat in the Super Over, facing Delhi pacer Mitchell Starc. The Royals managed just 10 runs off the first four balls, including a no-ball. However, back-to-back run-outs of Parag and Yashasvi Jaiswal left Delhi with an easily chaseable target.

KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs opened for Delhi, with Sandeep Sharma taking the ball. Rahul scored a double off the first delivery, followed by a four and a single, leaving Stubbs to finish the match. He did just that, hammering a six on the fourth ball to seal the victory for Delhi.

The thrilling contest was a reminder of the IPL’s unpredictable drama, with strategy and composure under pressure proving decisive in the final moments.
