Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli, who represented the country in 104 ODIs and 17 Tests, has been battling both health issues and financial hardships in recent years. His condition came to light last year when he was admitted to a hospital in Thane due to a urinary infection and muscle cramps, revealing the extent of his personal struggles.
Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has stepped in to support his former teammate. Gavaskar had initially promised to help Kambli during the inauguration of coach Ramakant Achrekar’s memorial at Shivaji Park, Mumbai, in December 2024.
Staying true to his word, Gavaskar has reportedly extended financial assistance through his CHAMPS Foundation, which will provide Rs 30,000 per month to Kambli. In addition, the foundation will offer Rs 30,000 annually for medical expenses, according to multiple media reports.
Kambli, who receives ₹30,000 monthly pension from the BCCI, had also recently received ₹5 lakh assistance from a political party. However, his wife Andrea Hewitt revealed that they owe ₹18 lakh in maintenance fees for their house to the housing society, putting them at risk of losing their home at any moment.
