As speculation swirls over Virat Kohli's possible retirement from Test cricket, fans across the cricketing world have taken to social media in an emotional outpouring, urging the iconic Indian batter to reconsider and continue representing the country in the longest format of the game.

The buzz began following unconfirmed reports suggesting that Kohli, 36, may be contemplating stepping away from Test cricket. The rumours emerged just two days after his longtime teammate and Indian skipper Rohit Sharma officially announced his retirement from Tests, fuelling fears of a major transition in the Indian camp.

India are set to kick off their ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 campaign with a five-match home series against England, beginning at Headingley on 20 June. Kohli’s presence, or absence, in the squad is now a subject of widespread discussion.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has remained tight-lipped on the matter. PTI reportedly reached out to chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia for clarification, but no response has been issued thus far.

In a heartfelt message posted on social media, former India batter Ambati Rayudu added his voice to the growing chorus, urging Kohli not to call time on his Test career. “Virat Kohli, please don’t retire. The Indian team needs you more than ever. You have so much more in the tank. Test cricket will not be the same without you walking out to battle it out for Team India. Please reconsider,” Rayudu wrote.

Kohli's loyal supporters echoed similar sentiments online. Some implored cricketing legends and close associates of Kohli, including Sachin Tendulkar, AB de Villiers, and his wife Anushka Sharma, to intervene.

"Please convince Virat Kohli not to retire right now. Only you guys can do it," read one post. Others expressed disbelief at the speculation, citing Kohli's recent appearances in domestic cricket and intensive training sessions as signs he remains deeply committed to the game.

"Kohli isn't retiring. Why would he play Ranji and train with Sanjay Bangar on backfoot punches just days before Delhi vs Railways if he was stepping away?" questioned another fan, dismissing the reports as negative publicity.

Meanwhile, with the team entering a new era, flamboyant wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is widely expected to be named vice-captain, with Shubman Gill tipped to take over leadership duties in the Test format. Pant, noted for his stellar overseas record—centuries in Australia, England, and South Africa, and several scores in the 90s—remains a pillar in India's red-ball lineup.

Despite the expected changes, the focus remains squarely on Kohli, whose name has become synonymous with passion, excellence, and consistency in Indian cricket. For many, his departure from the format would not just mark the end of an era, but the fading of a standard-bearer for Test cricket in modern times.

As fans continue to campaign for his stay, the cricketing world now waits—anxiously and hopefully—for Kohli’s next move.
