New Delhi: Rajeev Shukla is expected to assume the role of interim President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), as the incumbent President, Roger Binny, approaches the organisation's stipulated age limit for office bearers.

Shukla, who currently serves as the BCCI Vice-President, is poised to take over the reins for a three-month interim period. The move comes as Binny, a former India cricketer and a member of the legendary 1983 World Cup-winning squad, is set to turn 70 on 19 July—crossing the age threshold set by the BCCI constitution for top office bearers.

According to sources, a formal election to appoint a new President is likely to be scheduled soon. In the meantime, Shukla is expected to oversee the responsibilities and ensure continuity in administrative operations until a successor is chosen.

Roger Binny was elected as BCCI President in 2022, succeeding former captain Sourav Ganguly. His tenure has seen key developments in Indian cricket, but the age cap now necessitates a leadership change. The BCCI's constitution mandates that no individual above the age of 70 may hold a senior position within the board.

While an official confirmation is awaited, insiders suggest that preparations are already underway for a smooth transition, with Shukla at the helm in the interim.

Further details regarding the forthcoming election and potential candidates for the post are expected to emerge in due course.
