New Delhi: The T20 World Cup champions gathered at PM Modi's official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in Delhi, adorned in a special jersey bearing the bold inscription 'CHAMPIONS' on the front. This marked their celebratory meeting with the Prime Minister after clinching their second T20 World Cup title, triumphing over South Africa by seven runs in Barbados.
After their interaction with Modi, the World Cup heroes left for Mumbai where a victory parade has been scheduled later in the evening.
The team's journey back to Delhi was notably challenging due to Hurricane Beryl's impact on Barbados, temporarily halting travel with the closure of Grantley Adams International Airport. However, coordinated efforts by BCCI Secretary Jay Shah ensured a timely departure on July 3, culminating in their arrival in Delhi at 6:00 AM on Thursday morning. Accompanying them were board officials and members of the media contingent who covered the tournament.
India's victory in the final ended a 13-year drought in ICC trophies, with Virat Kohli's commanding 76 runs contributing to a total of 176/7. Hardik Pandya's economical bowling figures of 3/20 and Jasprit Bumrah's 2/18 restricted South Africa to 169/8, securing India's triumph despite Heinrich Klaasen's aggressive 52 off 27 balls. Bumrah's exceptional performance throughout the tournament earned him the prestigious 'Player of the Tournament' award, with 15 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 4.17.
After their reception in Delhi, akin to other victorious teams, Rohit Sharma's squad will embark on an open-top bus ride through Mumbai, scheduled from 5:00 PM onwards. The route will pass through Marine Drive and culminate at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, providing an opportunity for fans to join in celebrating the team's historic achievement.
The triumphant return of Team India not only signifies their prowess on the cricket field but also their resilience in overcoming adversities, both on and off the pitch, to bring home glory for the nation. ANI
