Bollywood actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut has joined the chorus of criticism against the Paris Olympics opening ceremony for its controversial recreation of the Last Supper.
The presentation of the iconic Christian painting has been widely condemned for its perceived blasphemy and disrespect towards Christianity.
Ranaut shared her outrage on Instagram, posting pictures of the ceremony and writing, "The Paris Olympics is under fire for including a 'child' in their hyper-s*xualized, blasphemous rendition of The Last Supper. An apparent child could be seen joining the drag queens during the performance. They also showed a naked man painted blue as Jesus and mocked Christianity. Leftists totally hijacked Olympics 2024. Shame."
She further criticized the ceremony for its focus on sexuality, writing, "At Olympics opening everything was about being homosexual, I am not against homosexuality but this is beyond me how Olympics is related to any sexuality?? Why games, sports participation of all nations to claim human exellence being taken over by sex?? Why cant sex stay in our bedrooms ?? Why it has to be a national identity? This is bizzare!!"
Not just the Queen actress, French politician Marion Maréchal, distancing herself from the controversy, stated that the display did not represent the views of the French people, but rather a "left-wing minority ready for any provocation."
“To all the Christians of the world who are watching the #Paris2024 ceremony and felt insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking but a left-wing minority ready for any provocation. #notinmyname,” she wrote.
The ceremony has also attracted widespread criticism from the Christian community, with many calling it "disgusting" and "disgraceful." One user wrote, "Disgusting, to say the least". Another tweet read, "they are really mocking God! They keep pushing the limits. So disgraceful!."
