The 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony has sparked outrage on social media, with many users expressing disgust and disappointment over a performance they felt mocked Christian values and Lord Christ. The ceremony, watched by over 300,000 people on the banks of the Seine and billions on television, featured a drag queen performance that included a recreation of Jesus Christ's The Last Supper, the beheading of Marie Antoinette, and a depiction of Dionysus—the God of Wine.

Many viewers took to social media to express their offence, calling the performance "disgraceful," "disrespectful," and "woke dystopian." Some users felt the ceremony was intentionally provocative and disrespectful towards Christian viewers.

French politician Marion Maréchal, a member of the European Parliament, distanced herself from the controversy, stating that the display did not represent the views of the French people, but rather a "left-wing minority ready for any provocation."

“To all the Christians of the world who are watching the #Paris2024 ceremony and felt insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking but a left-wing minority ready for any provocation. #notinmyname,” she wrote.

A user wrote, "The 2024 Paris Olympics has gone full Woke dystopian. The opening ceremony was filled with transgend*r mockery of the Last Supper, the Golden Calf idol, and even the Pale Horse from the Book of Revelation. The Olympics has made it clear that Christian viewers aren't welcome."

Another user wrote, "Disgusting, to say the least". The event attracted hate from the Christian community, a user spat, "they are really mocking God! They keep pushing the limits. So disgraceful!."

The ceremony, which was the "biggest in Olympic Games history," featured a six-kilometre-long "Parade of Nations" and performances by artists including Lady Gaga. Despite the controversy, the event organisers hailed the ceremony as a success, with millions tuning in worldwide.
