Paris: Chinese badminton player Huang Ya Qiong is set to return from Paris with both a gold medal and a wedding ring. Following her victory in the mixed doubles final with Zheng Siwei on Friday, Ya Qiong experienced a memorable moment on the Olympic podium.

After defeating the Korean team to secure the first Olympic gold medal for China in this event, Ya Qiong was preparing to leave the podium when her teammate and boyfriend, Liu Yuchen, made a surprise proposal. With the crowd at the La Chapelle Arena as witnesses, Liu Yuchen got down on one knee, took the wedding ring from his pocket, and proposed. The arena erupted in applause and cheers as Ya Qiong accepted.
