Tamil Nadu: As the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaches, prayers were offered in Kamala Harris' ancestral village, Thulasendrapuram, for her victory. Harris, the Democratic candidate, is facing off against former U.S. President Donald Trump in the high-stakes race set for November 5.

Kamala Harris’s mother’s family once lived in Tamil Nadu’s Thulasendrapuram. “We’re overjoyed to know that someone who traces her ancestry to our village might become the president of the United States,” said resident Sudhakar Jayaraman.

According to him, the villagers gathered at the local temple—one that was once donated by Harris and her grandfather. Sudhakar Jayaraman, a local resident, shared that prayers were held at the temple for Harris' success in the election. “For a person of Indian descent with Tamil roots to reach such a high office makes us all proud,” Jayaraman added.
