Kamala Harris and Donald Trump made their final appeals to voters in key battleground states in the final hours of US presidential election 2024. Harris focused on Pennsylvania, while Trump toured North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. Both candidates energised their supporters with star-studded rallies and powerful speeches, knowing the outcome would shape the nation’s future.

Kamala Harris rallies support in Pennsylvania

On the final day before Election Day, Kamala Harris focused her campaign on Pennsylvania, a pivotal state with 19 electoral votes. She held her closing rally outside Philadelphia’s iconic Museum of Art, drawing a crowd with appearances from Oprah and Lady Gaga. Joined by prominent figures, including her husband, Doug Emhoff, and her sister, Maya Harris, Harris urged her supporters to get out the vote, projecting optimism about her campaign’s momentum.

In Pittsburgh, Harris delivered a brief speech at the historic Carrie Furnaces, a nod to the city’s steel legacy, urging voters to exercise their rights and expressing confidence in a strong finish for her campaign. Touring neighbourhoods and meeting with residents, Harris promoted unity and empathy, noting the significance of Pennsylvania in her campaign strategy.

Donald Trump’s multi-state rally tour

Meanwhile, Donald Trump conducted a packed rally schedule, covering North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. In Pittsburgh, he spoke at the PPG Paints Arena, contrasting his campaign’s direction with Harris’s and sharply criticising her leadership. Rallying his base, Trump warned that a Harris presidency would lead to “misery and failure” and reiterated his promises of economic growth, lower prices, and national security under his leadership.

Trump also garnered support from prominent figures like conservative commentator Megyn Kelly and former baseball player Roberto Clemente Jr., who endorsed him to help boost his standing among Hispanic voters. Rallying crowds in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he also concluded his 2016 and 2020 campaigns, Trump emphasised his hardline stances on immigration and vowed to protect the country’s borders.

A nation on edge as votes near

As early voting records surge, the nation braces for possible delays in the final count and the risk of misinformation campaigns, with federal agencies on alert for election security concerns. Both candidates’ rallies reflected the high-stakes nature of the election, with Harris supporters hopeful for change and Trump supporters anticipating continuity.
