In an official online statement, the department said the move was taken “due to safety risks” as tensions continue to rise across the Middle East.
The State Department has urged US citizens across the Middle East to leave the region in view of the escalating war with Iran. The advisory comes as security concerns grow following recent attacks and regional instability.
The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia confirmed that it came under attack from Iranian drones on Tuesday. The embassy has advised Americans to avoid the diplomatic mission until further notice.
