US lawmakers, governors and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have extended Independence Day greetings to India, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between New Delhi and Washington.
US leaders from both the Democratic and Republican parties congratulated India on its 80th Independence Day, describing the bilateral relationship as increasingly important for economic growth, technology, security and global stability.

The messages were compiled by the Consulate General of India in Seattle ahead of Independence Day celebrations. Several lawmakers also recognised the contributions of the Indian-American community to the US economy, education, technology and culture.
Rubio highlights Trump-Modi relationship
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the relationship between the two countries was “stronger than ever”, linking its continued growth to the relationship between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rubio highlighted defence, energy security, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, space cooperation and commerce as key areas of bilateral engagement.
He also said cooperation between the two countries was contributing to security and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.
Bipartisan support for India
Senator Maria Cantwell described India as one of the world's largest and most vibrant democracies and highlighted its contributions to science, technology, education, culture and the global economy.
Representative Adam Smith called the India-US relationship “incredibly important right now”, while Representative Michael Baumgartner pointed to shared national security challenges and the importance of bilateral cooperation.
Representatives Kim Schrier, Suzan DelBene and Dusty Johnson also praised the Indian-American community and its contributions to education, innovation, business and economic growth.
US governors extend greetings
Governors from several states also marked India's Independence Day.
Montana Governor Greg Gianforte highlighted the contributions of Indian and Indian-American communities to innovation, education and civic life. Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy praised their role in healthcare, education and business, while South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden expressed hope for continued growth in India-US ties.
Why the relationship matters
The messages come as India and the US continue to expand cooperation across defence, technology, energy, critical minerals, space and trade.
The emphasis on bipartisan support is also significant because India-US relations increasingly cover strategic issues beyond traditional diplomatic engagement. Critical supply chains, emerging technologies and security cooperation have become important components of the partnership.
India and the US are marking eight decades of diplomatic relations in 2026, alongside India's 80th year of independence.
