Kyiv, Ukraine: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has offered to send firefighters to assist Los Angeles as the city battles deadly wildfires. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine's rescuers are ready to help save lives as the situation worsens in California.

Deadly wildfires in Los Angeles have claimed the lives of at least 24 people in less than a week, devastating communities and leaving thousands homeless. With strong winds fueling the flames, firefighters warn that the blazes could spread to new areas, making conditions even more dangerous.

Zelensky's offer of help

In response to the ongoing disaster, President Zelensky offered Ukraine’s assistance, saying, "I have instructed Ukraine's minister of internal affairs to prepare for the possible participation of our rescuers in combating the wildfires in California." He added that "150 of our firefighters are already prepared" to assist in the efforts.

Zelensky confirmed that the aid is "currently being coordinated" and emphasized the difficulty of the situation in Los Angeles. He expressed confidence that Ukraine's firefighters could help save lives during the ongoing crisis.

Since the onset of the war with Russia, the United States has been a major supporter of Ukraine, providing over USD 65 billion in military aid. While US President Joe Biden has pledged continued support, concerns have emerged in Ukraine about the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump and its approach to the conflict.
