Washington: Two staff members of the Israeli embassy in Washington were shot and killed Wednesday evening near the Capital Jewish Museum, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed in a statement on X.

The museum, located just steps from the FBI’s Washington field office, became the site of a deadly attack that has drawn sharp condemnation from Israeli officials.

In a post shared in X, spokesperson of the Israeli embassy in Washington, US, Tal Naim said, "Two staff members of the Israeli embassy were shot this evening at close range while attending a Jewish event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC. We have full faith in law enforcement authorities on both the local and federal levels to apprehend the shooter and protect Israel’s representatives and Jewish communities throughout the United States.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi, who was at the scene alongside former judge and current U.S. Attorney for Washington, Jeanine Pirro, confirmed their presence during the immediate aftermath of the shooting.

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, strongly condemned the incident, calling it a “depraved act of anti-Semitic terrorism.”

“We are confident that the US authorities will take strong action against those responsible for this criminal act,” Danon said in a post on X. “Israel will continue to act resolutely to protect its citizens and representatives — everywhere in the world.”
