Washington: US President Donald Trump issued a forceful declaration regarding American military readiness on Tuesday, asserting that the United States possesses a "virtually unlimited" supply of munitions capable of sustaining armed conflict indefinitely.

The president’s comments, shared on his Truth Social platform, come as the U.S. provides critical support for Israel in its intensifying war against Iran. Trump characterised the nation's current stockpiles of "medium and upper medium grade" munitions as being at historic levels of quality and quantity.

“As was stated to me today, we have a virtually unlimited supply of these weapons. Wars can be fought 'forever,' and very successfully, using just these supplies (which are better than other countries finest arms!),” Trump wrote.

While expressing high confidence in mid-grade supplies, Trump noted that the inventory of "super high end" weaponry is "not where we want to be," though he claimed a "good supply" remains available. He further stated that significant amounts of additional high-grade hardware are being held for the U.S. in "outlying countries."

The president used the announcement to sharply criticise former President Joe Biden, specifically targeting the previous administration's military aid to Ukraine.

“Sleepy Joe Biden spent all of his time, and our Country's money, GIVING everything to P.T. Barnum (Zelenskyy!) of Ukraine - Hundreds of Billions of Dollars worth - And, while he gave so much of the super high end away (FREE!), he didn't bother to replace it,” Trump posted. “Fortunately, I rebuilt the military in my first term, and continue to do so. The United States is stocked, and ready to WIN, BIG!!!”

The president’s rhetoric comes as Pentagon officials grapple with the high "burn rate" of interceptors used to neutralise Iranian ballistic missile barrages.
