US President Donald Trump criticised Ukraine on Sunday for showing “zero gratitude” for Washington’s support as talks began on a White House-backed 28-point plan aimed at ending the war with Russia.

Washington: US President Donald Trump on Sunday accused Ukraine of displaying “zero gratitude” for US efforts in supporting the country against Russia’s invasion, coinciding with high-level talks in Geneva on a potential peace proposal.
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, describing the ongoing conflict as a “human catastrophe” and expressing frustration at Ukraine’s leadership while also targeting his predecessor, Joe Biden. He made no direct condemnation of Moscow, writing, “UKRAINE ‘LEADERSHIP’ HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS,” and noting that European countries continue to purchase oil from Russia.

Highlighting US military assistance, Trump added, “THE USA CONTINUES TO SELL MASSIVE $AMOUNTS OF WEAPONS TO NATO, FOR DISTRIBUTION TO UKRAINE (CROOKED JOE GAVE EVERYTHING, FREE, FREE, FREE, INCLUDING ‘BIG’ MONEY!).”
The comments followed the leak of a 28-point peace plan intended to end the war, which sparked debate over its provisions. Some reports suggested the plan aligned with Russian priorities, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed it was authored by the US. The blueprint reportedly requires Ukraine to cede the Donbas region, reduce its military from roughly 900,000 to 600,000 personnel, commit to never joining NATO, and grant amnesty to individuals involved in the conflict. Russia, by contrast, would make minimal concessions.
Trump blamed the conflict on prior US leadership, writing that the war “began long before I took office” and accusing Biden of allowing it to escalate. He said, “I INHERITED A WAR THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, A WAR THAT IS A LOSER FOR EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN SO NEEDLESSLY KILLED.”
His post has intensified debates over US diplomacy and the handling of the Ukraine war, underlining the political tensions surrounding efforts to broker peace in the region.
